Last season was legendary, Antwerp FC earned a first league championship since 1957 in the most dramatic of circumstances, thanks to a 94th-minute equaliser from former Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld in the final game. It earned Antwerp passage into Europe’s elite club competition [the UEFA Champions League] for the first time.
“Historically, the football club embodies an authentic rawness, work hard and play hard, no nonsense. Antwerp is not about being sophisticated but being unfiltered. That’s why Alderweireld and van Bommel are successful here.”

Another game between Antwerp and KV Mechelen, and a rematch of the cup final in April. Antwerp started very strong and controlled the first half, resulting in a 1-0 lead with a goal from Michel-Ange Balikwisha, but ended up with ten in the second half, due to a red card from Gastón Ávila. On top of that, an unfortunate own goal conceded a 1-1 draw after the regular 90 minutes. Antwerp however did better in an exciting penalty series, and can therefore put the first Supercup in the trophy cabinet 🇵🇪🏆!
